A club shaped by its students
We are a family-run club shaped by our students. Many of our members train alongside siblings, parents or friends, and this shared experience helps create a strong sense of connection within the club. Community is not something we advertise lightly; it develops naturally through how we train, behave, and support one another. Kojin-Kai is defined by the people who train here. We are not a franchise, a production line, or a results-driven black-belt academy.
Our approach to karate
We teach traditional Kyokushin karate with a modern mindset. Technique and fundamentals matter to us, but so do how people feel when they train. Our approach values effort over perfection, character over results, and long-term development over fast progression.
We would rather see students grow steadily and enjoy their training than feel pressured to rush grades or chase outcomes. Some students choose to compete, others do not, and both paths are equally respected. No one is ever pressured to grade or compete.
Safeguarding, standards and care
Our instructors bring over 30 years of combined karate experience and are fully DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and safeguarding-qualified. We are proud to be the only karate club in Ashford to hold the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts award. This commitment shapes how we run our classes, including maintaining appropriate class sizes, prioritising safe and responsible coaching, and ensuring instructors can provide individual attention. These standards sit at the heart of how we operate.
Independence and reinvestment
Being fully independent allows us to run gradings, events and club activities in-house, make decisions locally, and keep costs fair for our members. A significant proportion of our income is reinvested directly back into the club, supporting equipment, facilities and opportunities for students. This approach allows Kojin-Kai to develop sustainably and responsibly, always with the long-term benefit of the club and its members in mind.
