About us

Kojin-Kai Karate Club is a fully independent, community-focused martial arts club based in Ashford, Kent. We offer traditional Kyokushin karate classes for children, teens and adults aged five and up.

As a small, family-run club, many of our students train alongside siblings, parents or friends. This strong sense of community is central to everything we do.

We are passionate about providing high-quality, structured karate instruction in a welcoming and supportive environment where every student, regardless of age, ability or experience, is treated with respect and care. Unlike larger franchise clubs, we keep our class sizes small and focus on individual attention. Our in-house gradings uphold high technical standards while keeping the focus on personal progress and confidence.

With over 30 years of combined teaching experience, our instructors are fully DBS checked and qualified in first aid and safeguarding. We are proud to be the only karate club in Ashford to hold the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts award, demonstrating our commitment to safe, responsible and inclusive coaching.

A significant portion of our income is reinvested directly back into the club. From upgrading equipment to running inclusive events, we are always working to provide the best possible training environment and opportunities for our students.

Recently, 20 of our students represented England at the WUMF World Championships, with 12 students achieving medals in kata. We are incredibly proud of every single one of our students who competed at this major event. At the same time, we understand that not everyone wants to compete and there are many other ways to develop in karate. Students are never pressured to grade or compete.

Whether you are looking to build confidence, improve fitness or embrace the values of traditional Kyokushin karate, you will find a welcoming and committed home at Kojin-Kai Karate Club.

What makes us different?

At Kojin-kai Karate Club, we offer a supportive, family-friendly environment where every student is valued.
Here’s what sets us apart:

We are a small, independant club!

With fewer students, we provide personalised coaching and individual attention to all students, helping everyone progress at their own pace.

We are a local club, located in Ashford town centre

We’re a local Ashford club run by local instructors, not part of a large franchise. We reinvest into the club to benefit our students and the local community.

We teach traditional Kyokushin karate

We teach kata, kihon, and kumite, not just fighting. Whether you want to compete or train for fitness and self-development, there’s a place for you.

We are a family-oriented club

Many of our students train with siblings, parents, or grandparents. We love seeing families grow stronger together!

Safeguarding

With nearly 3 decades of experience, our instructors are DBS-checked, safeguarding and first aid qualified, ensuring a safe and professional learning environment. We are the only Kyokushin Karate club in Kent to have the Safeguarding in Martial Arts Code Mark.

In-house gradings

Students grade at our club with no expensive pre-gradings or constant extra hidden fees. Progression is clear, structured, and affordable.

We always use high quality and safe equipment

We always train on competition/training mats, reducing impact and making sessions safer for all ages.

Sophie and Harry absolutely love attending Kojin-Kai Karate Ashford. The Karate classes have given both of our children a boost in their self confidence and self discipline. Classes are always extremely fun, enjoyable and are very rewarding.

Sophie and Harry have earned a real sense of achievement throughout their gradings whilst learning new self defence skills, earning new colour belts and certificates along the way, as well as being able to take part in tournaments if they wish!

Classes are always designed to meet the children’s own pace of learning with praise and positive feedback given along the way building further confidence to the children. Classes are small, family orientated with a really nice atmosphere where everyone is also valued! The club also has really great safeguarding skills and are first aid trained too!

Kojin-Kai Karate Club is the best place to be! Thank you Millie and Ryan for everything, you guys are the reason this happened. So thankful to be apart of this club. You have inspired my daughter and me and we are forever grateful for the time you put in and the support you give to every individual student.

Brilliant karate club with great ethos. The instructors here really take the time to help every student, which is a rarity as many clubs just focus on getting numbers through the door. My son loves going to class, as the culture is about having fun, as well as the serious stuff of learning karate and fitness. Highly recommended.
